Buddhist Peace School Strengthens Academic Support

In Term Two, the teachers were able to meet the various learning needs of the children because of continuous assessment and the provision of remedial support.

Children learn at different rates, and during Term Two at Buddhist Peace Nursery and Primary School there was a special focus on keeping an eye on progress and providing help to those learners who needed it.

During the term, teachers evaluated the learners by means of classroom assignments, tests held every two weeks, and examinations at the start of the term, at the mid-term, and at the end of the term.

The assessments were not only employed in order to assign marks; they also enabled teachers to see how each learner was progressing and to spot any difficulties the pupils were having in reading, writing, numeracy and the other subjects.

Those learners who needed extra help were given remedial support so as to enable them to improve their understanding and keep up with their classmates.

This support shows the school’s commitment to encouraging slower learners and giving them the opportunities needed to improve rather than having them fall behind.

The school also kept on promoting discipline, regular attendance and punctuality. This is because children get the most out of things when they attend lessons regularly, arrive on time, and have their schoolwork supported at home.

During the teacher-parent meeting, which took place during the term, parents and teachers cooperated and talked about academic performance, discipline, homework, the materials used in learning, and the welfare of the learners.

The meeting served to remind both families and teachers that it is a joint responsibility to educate a child; children then get more consistent support if parents keep an eye on their schoolwork, communicate with the teachers, and encourage good behaviors at home.

When the learners start their three-week holiday, they are advised to take some rest, stay safe and keep on reading. They may also help out with tasks that are suitable to their age group by showing respect, maintaining cleanliness, being mindful and being compassionate.

At the start of Term Three, the school will keep on providing academic support and give individual attention to those learners who need it.

The achievements obtained in Term Two were due to the dedication shown by teachers, parents, administrators, monastics, volunteers, donors and friends of the Uganda Buddhist Centre.

This support is aiding in the establishment of an atmosphere in which each learner is appreciated and is encouraged to grow academically, socially and emotionally.
